Stampin' Up! Wet, Dry Embossing Technique Christmas Card

Happiest Monday, Peaches! I have great news-we survived the first two weeks of school, lol! It was a bit of a whirlwind, but I'm happy to report we made it. I'm sure any of you who are parents can relate. It's been a busy fun summer and now you're ready for them to go back to school. It's not that you don't enjoy their sweet loving snuggles each morning or the ever relentless complaints of boredom. It's just that you're so ready for everything to be back on a schedule. That beautiful 5-hour stretch of time when you get to work without interruption and feel like you've accomplished something. Don't get me wrong, I absolutely miss my little girl the moment she's gone. I feel the absence with each passing moment of pure quite. So, needless to say it's a very uncertain feeling. Though I'm CERTAIN I have tons to get done and cram into the short period of time (that also feels like a lifetime when I'm thinking of her). I know I'm a bit crazy, lol. Well, onto today's project and a welcome distraction.

As I've explained in my previous post, I'm trying to get a head start on my holiday cards (don't worry, I promise to try to fit in a few that are not Christmas too). Well, I have another elegant Christmas card using a fun technique. In the newest upcoming catalog there's a gorgeous embossing folder called Winter Wonder. I used it on my Star of Light card a few posts back and I just love it! This time I wanted to add a little glitz but wasn't sure how I would accomplish this.

I played with a few different ideas and finally landed on one that worked out beautifully. It requires both wet and dry embossing techniques. Here's how it works: I first take my Whisper White cardstock and use my embossing buddy to prevent any excess static. This is an important step because this technique involves intricate, detailed parts and this can help prevent embossing powder from getting anywhere you don't want. I also use it on my Winter Wonder embossing folder before I use it. For the next step you need to look at your embossing folder and identify the side with the raised image. This is the side I will use with my Versamark. Then I take my Versamark (here's the wet part) and dab (very gently) over the raised areas of the folder. Then I carefully, without jostling your cardstock, place my panel of Whisper White inside the folder, close it, and just as carefully, run it through my Bigshot just as I would any other embossing folder (this is the dry embossing part). What you have done is pushed the Versamarked areas to be embossing into your cardstock . This allows me to then pour my gold embossing powder onto it, dab of the excess, and heat set it, leaving me with a beautifully debossed gold snowflake.

For the rest of my card, I added some gold embellishments and details and die cut a few snowflakes from the Seasonal Layers thinlits dies. I also stamped my greeting from the new set Cheers to the Year, which will also be available in the new catalog on September 1st in Dapper Denim. Well that's my card! I hope you've enjoyed today's post and I'll see you next time!
