Stampin' Up! Hearts Come Home Christmas Card and Sneak Peek

Hey Peachy stampers! Boy has it been a week! As you may recall from my previous post, my little girl just started the first grade. Last year she was in a PM kindergarten class, which means she came for the later part of the school day each day. Now going in, I knew this could cause problems in the future for her schedule because she'd be so used to a later start to her day. Needless to say, there's been some struggle with adjustment. Luckily, she's a pretty great "go-with-flow" kind of girl. It will be interesting to see how quickly she adjusts to, not only the new schedule, but a longer day as well. I know she'll do great; it's just always rough for the first few weeks-for the parents as well, lol.

Well, onto my card. I wanted to share with you one of my absolute favorite new holiday stamps from the upcoming holiday catalog. It's called Hearts Come Home and it coordinates with the Hometown Greetings Edgelits dies. This set also comes in a bundle for additional savings, and will be available when the catalog goes live on September 1st.

Now if you'll notice, the dies are labeled "edgelits" and that's because they are designed to create beautiful intricate die cut edges for your projects. Now you, of course, aren't limited to the intended design. You can cut the houses apart and use them individually or layer them any way you please. There are so many options. Here's a picture of the edgelits so you can see the lovely detail:

For my project, I knew the moment I saw this set in the catalog that I wanted to make a shaker snow globe. I saw the pretty houses, with the gorgeous silhouette of Santa and his sleigh, and knew it was the perfect scene for my globe. So I began with my background. To create the snowy, "glowy" look, I ink blended with Sweet Sugarplum from the top to the middle and (making sure to overlap in the middle) then blended in Pacific Point. Then I took my sponge dauber and inked it up in my Craft White ink pad. Then I lightly daubed my background, creating white circles (it has the Bokeh look). After my background was done, die cut the Church set of edgelits in Whisper White cardstock and the next largest set of house edgelits out of vellum. Now I wanted my Church row of houses to be solid shapes so I made sure to keep all the tiny pieces in the die cut. If some got stuck in the die itself,  I just flipped the die over carefully add liquid adhesive to the backside of each tiny piece, flip it over, and place it directly over the die cut, lining it up with the matching die cut. Then I take my paper piercer and poke each little piece out and into place. It's so much easier a process than trying to match up each piece outside the die and adhering them.

The next thing I did was take my vellum set of houses and inked on some Sweet Sugarplum to tiny them a light purple color for contrast, and layered them over the white set of houses. Now that I had my houses placed, I could stamp my Santa sleigh silhouette. After that, I took my largest circle die, centered it on a piece of Whisper White cardstock and cut it out. I flipped it over and added a sheet of acetate and then added some foam tape just outside the perimeter of the circle. Next, I added some sequins to the center of my background. I flipped over my top circle cut layer and I overlayed that over my background in a way so that I see the arrangement of houses the way I liked. Lastly, I used one of the dies from the Window Box dies and used it as the base for my snow globe. I added a few extra embellishments, along with my sentiment and my card was complete!

I hope you enjoyed today's project! I hope the pictures can truly show how beautiful it is in person. I just love shaker cards. Thanks so much for stopping by and I'll see you next post!
