Watercolor Christmas Tree Card Using Embossing Paste for Snow

Happy Monday Peaches! It's been a bit of a bittersweet weekend. My mom is moving out of state to Oklahoma so my brothers, sisters, and I all got together with her at my house for a little going away party. The sweet part was getting see everyone and spend time together. Of course the bitter part is that she'll no longer be within decent driving distance. How do you prepare for someone close to leave?! I've handled it the same way in the past and I always feel like there's never been enough time together. Then, when they're gone, I always feel a bit of regret. I think what makes it a bit easier to swallow is the promise of next visit. It's not good by for good, just for now.

Well, I suppose I should get on with today's card. You know I just can't stay away from the watercoloring technique. It's my jam, people, lol. However in today's card, I've added a little twist. I wanted to create a tree, using my Emerald Envy ink and Aqua Painter, and Stampin' Up! has some truly gorgeous sets with trees of all sizes. But I just wanted to create my own, I know, crazy, haha. So I started with my watercolor paper. Since I was going for a more symmetrical looking tree (you that magical, nonexistent one that we imagine we'll find in the Christmas tree farm but never do because there's always a flaw, though always a beautiful flaw.), so I began by drawing a straight line lightly in pencil with my straight edge. Next, I like to lay down a layer of water before I add the ink so that the color spreads smoothly. I took some ink and began at the bottom, swishing lightly back and forth in a wide stroke st first. Then as I gradually moved up, I would shorten my swishing movement so that the bottom of my tree was wider than the top. You can come back and add ink to different areas for shading if you like.

I let this dry and then I took some of the Embossing Paste and my Palette Knife and spread some on a few branches throughout the tree. Just use your knife to spread it as desired. It's pretty forgiving so you can remove any if you feel you don't like the placement while it's wet. However, it does dry fast so if it dries, it's stuck there. Directly after that I added some Dazzling Diamonds glitter to the paste before it dried. Then I hear set the paste with my heat tool which made it begin to puff up, looking like snow. I cut it out and added it to my card front. The sentiment that I added came from the beautiful Hearts Come Home stamp set. I added a few more embellishments and that finished off my card! I added a close up picture below so you can see the gorgeous dimension that the paste created. This is such a fun technique! I definitely recommend it. Thanks so much for stopping by! See you next post!
