Masculine Birthday Card Using Merry Patterns

Happy Wednesday Peaches! I have a pretty cool card for you today. Generally I struggle with making masculine cards. It’s definitely not my strong suit. However this set, Merry Patterns by Stampin’ Up!, is just perfect for gift cards. Now if you’re thinking, “Wait! That’s a Christmas stamp set!” You’d be correct. This set is in fact designed for Christmas, but I want to show you how versatile it is and to encourage you to take another look at your stamps to see what other ways you can use them.

The moment I saw this set I knew I wanted to make hunting themed birthday card. It has deer and candles too! To start my card, I began by Stamping the deer (solid one) in Soft Suede ink onto watercolor paper. However, I felt it looked too light and I wanted to paint over the sweater pattern anyway, so I added some Chocolate Chip ink over the entire deer with my Aqua Painter. After that dried, I took a piece of Window Sheet (if you don’t have these you can use a piece of acetate that comes with your stamp packaging) and dabbed the center with just a small spot of ink from the Chocolate Chip ink pad. Then I spritzed it from about 3 feet away with water to make the ink pool slightly into small drops on my Window Sheet. I dabbed that onto my watercolor paper with the stamped deer randomly so that I was going over and all around the deer image. I repeated this process with my Soft Suede ink until I was happy with my background and cut it into a circle.

If you’re wondering how I created the striped element, I took a piece of Whisper White cardstock and took the striped stamp from the Playful Patterns Stamp set and first stamped in Garden Green, then in Wild Wasabi to fill in the white spaces. I stamped my background with the pine sprig from the set and assembled the rest of my card. And that finishes off my card for today. Thanks so much for stopping by and I’ll see you next post!
