Stampin' Up! Cake Crazy Birthday Card #GDP087

Happy Monday, Peaches! Did you all enjoy your Mother's Day weekend? We didn't do anything too crazy. Mostly, we just celebrated with family and enjoyed each other's company.

Are you ready for another weekly challenge from the Global Design Project Design Team?!?! This week's challenge is a pretty fun one.

This week's theme challenge, Global Design Project 087, is cooking, baking, and making. Click here to see the challenge, along with all the amazing, inspiring projects that the team, as well as anyone who'd like to participate, has come up with. If you are interested in playing along, be sure to read all the guidelines before submitting your project.

So when thinking of this theme, of course the first thing that popped into my head was cake, yum!!! I just had to stamp a cake! For the cake, I wanted something whimsical, so I went with the super fun layering stamp set called Cake Crazy. Now if you love this stamp set as much as I do and don't yet own it, definitely click the product link below to pick it up as soon as you can, because after May 31st, this set will be retired.
Next, I began to pick out my color scheme, I really wanted to go for fun, bright, party colors, so I chose Bermuda Bay, Berry Burst (brand new in-color), and Lemon Lime Twist (another new in-color). These colors are just gorgeous together. In fact, I think I may have a new favorite color combo. If you notice the top of my cake, the last layer has a fun technique used to create the sort of, ombré effect. I didn't want just one solid color for this top portion as the rest of the cake layers were so colorful, so I stamped first in Lemon Line Twist (always stamp light color first) and then used my sponge dobber, dabbed it in my Bermuda Bay ink pad, and added some to the bottom portion of my freshly inked cake top image. I huffed on it (this remoistens the stamp) and then stamped and voilà, a beautifully inked ombré cake top layer! I also did this same technique with the candles on top of the cake with Berry Burst and Bermuda Bay. I hope you like my design and until next time, Peaches, have a wonderful day! P.S. the new in-color products will not be listed yet as they are not officially released. If you are interested in the brand new colors, starting June 1st you'll be able to order anything from the new catalog, including these new products.
