Dragonfly Dreams Thank You Card with Watercolor

Happy Monday peaches, and to those celebrating Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, happy MLK Day! I’m just popping briefly to share a quick card today. I wanted to share with you a little about layering and what my process looks like. Often times (well almost always, lol) I prefer having a TON of dimension on my projects. I feel that it gives them so much character and interest. I just love looking at cards and projects where there’s so much to look at. I feel that the veauty is in the details. I can’t always capture all the details in my card that you would appreciate in person, but I generally always include these. It is part of my personal style and one that makes my projects mine. Layers make all the difference in my opinion and my card today is packed with them.

For my first layer, of course I start with my base and build up. I took a panel of Whisper White Cardstock, measured at 4” x 5 1/4” and my Hexagons Dynamic Textured Impressions Embossing Folder and ran it through my Bigshot. Then I took a piece of Watercolor Paper, measured at 3 1/2” x 4 3/4”, my Aqua Painter, and my Lemon Lime Twist Ink Pad and Bermuda Bay Ink Pad to prepare for a little watercoloring. I began with my Lemon Lime Twist on the upper left portion of my watercolor panel and then the Bermuda Bay in the bottom left, working my way to the center with both colors so that they mix in the middle. Then I took my Aqua Painter, dipped it in each of the inks one at a time and splattered some drops of each color onto my watercolor panel. Then I set it aside to dry.

Next I used the Dragonfly Dreams Stamp Set and Detailed Dragonfly Thinlits Dies to create my dragonfly. I started by cutting out a solid dragonfly out of a Window Sheet and then stamped on it in Versamark with the more detailed dragonfly stamp. Then I mixed some Clear Stampin’ Embossing Powder with some Dazzling Diamonds Stampin’ Glitter and sprinkled it on top of the stamped image and heat set it. Then I used the smaller, more detailed dragonfly die, and cut out a white one and adhered it on top of my embossed dragonfly image. I’ve included a close up of the wings in the picture below so you can hopefully see the detail in the wings that the powder mixed with glitter created. I just LOVE it!

To complete my card and, of course, add more details, I added a few flowers from the Sweet Soirée Embellishment Kit, some sparkle from my Wink of Stella Pen, and some coordinating sequins from the Iridescent Sequin Assortment and that finished off my card for today. Thanks so much for stopping by and I’ll see you next post! By the way, my next post this week will be on Thursday instead of Wednesday as I will be participating in a blog hop. See you Thursday!

I also wanted to include how I've been stamping the back of my cards. I just love my new Artisan Design Team stamp!
