Stampin' Up! Butterfly Floral Mother's Day Cards

Happy Thursday Peaches! I'm super excited to share today's projects with you!!! As you know if you've been following my latest posts, I've been working on getting my Mother's Day cards done. These are a few of my latest. A friend asked me how I get inspired to create my projects. I had to think for a second because sometimes I know that I can just go in my craft room and create till my head falls off. Other times I'm wracking my brain for ideas and feel so stuck creatively. When I'm trying to get ideas or inspiration or I am just struggling trying to figure out where to start, I always go where I feel the most inspiration. Now, strangely enough it's not always papercrafting that is my muse. More often I find it in a garment or bouquet of flowers. I've come to the realization that, for me, beautiful colors inspire me. I get so excited when I see the glint of multi-faceted color in a hummingbirds plumes or the stunning gradual change in color in exotic flowers. For me, seeing color and how it pairs so beautifully in nature gets my creative juices flowing. I encourage you to look for what inspires you, even if it's outside your craft room. Go for it!

Here's the inspiration I found for my cards.  Hydrangeas are absolutely breathtaking plants! They have the most gorgeous color gradients.

I love the soft purples and I thought they paired well with Pool Party. I of course needed some Sweet Sugarplum and silver. I used the gorgeous Butterfly framlits and Flourish framlits by Stampin' Up!, and here's my interpretation:

Stampin' Up! Penned & Painted Watercolor Mother's Day Card

Hey Peaches! I'm super excited to share with you today a theme challenge that I'm taking part in this week. This week's challenge is to use a stamp set that will be retiring at the end of May. The set I chose was Stampin' Up!'s Penned & Painted. What I really love about this set is that the artwork in it lends itself to so many different possibilities and techniques. It's simple, yet beautiful design allows you to add multiple layers to the gorgeous flowers, creating a realistic look.

For my design, I actually feel like I kept it quite simple. I only stamped the first "penned" layer in versamark ink and heat embossed, using white embossing  powder. Next, I began watercoloring the flowers with Peekaboo Peach and added some Watermelon Wonder to the centers. It's so simple to watercolor, using the Stampin' Up inks. I just squeeze gently, (while the ink pad is in a "closed" position) the top and bottom of the pad together, which puts some ink into the well of the lid. Then I take my aqua painter and mix the water with my inks and add it to my project. It's so simple, the colors match perfectly with my cardstock and embellishments, and the process is so satisfying and enjoyable. I definitely recommended trying this technique. I really love the results. One thing to keep in mind when watercoloring is that you dry your project in between changing colors if you don't want them to blend or bleed into each other.

Thank so much for stopping by! See you next time!

Stampin' Up! Dragonfly Dreams #GDP084

Update: My card was chosen as the winner of this challenge!!! Woohoo!!

Click here To see the challenge and other projects.

Hey Peaches! I'm participating in the Global Design Project 084 this week! I've been really enjoying challenging myself with these projects challenges. You can find this weeks challenge and all of the team's beautiful samples here on the Global Design Project page. This week we get to CASE (copy and selectively edit) the talented Michelle Last. In Michelle's design, I really love the texture of the background and all the layering of her focal elements. I wanted to incorporate that into my project.

To start my card off, I dry embossed my background, using the Petal Burst texture embossing folder and added some Dapper Denim watercoloring. While that dried, I created my focal point, the dragonfly. I created multiple layers for my dragonfly, using the Detailed Dragonfly thinlits dies. For the bottom layer, I really wanted a realistic look for the wings, so I heat embossed a mixture of clear embossing powder and the Dazzling Diamonds Stampin' Glitter into a window sheet. Then I added a layer of vellum that I  sponged with Dapper Denim ink. The last layer is just the main body of the Dragonfly in Dapper Denim.

I really enjoyed this challenge and I'm so glad you all stopped by! See you next time, Peaches!

Stampin' Up! Picture Perfect Mother's Day Card

Can you believe it's almost May!?!?! I just realized it this weekend and quite honestly panicked a tiny bit because I haven't started my Mother's Day cards. So now I need to get on it! For today's card, I decided on Stampin' Up!'s absolutely breathtaking Picture Perfect stamp set for two reasons. The first being that this lovely set is sadly retiring as of May 31st, so if you love this set, I recommend snatching it up as soon as you can. The second reason I just had to use this set was the beautiful hummingbird. My mom LOVES hummingbirds. Now this set is a 3-step stamp set. That simply means exactly what it sounds like; there are 3 stamps used to create the stunning, realistic effect of these images. Now I know to some of you this may sound intimidating. However, these are  photopolymer. Therefore you can see right through them as you stamp, making it very easy to line the images up. I've also included a picture of another card I made a while back, using the starfish from this set. I hope you like my card today, and until next time, I hope you have a wonderful weekend, Peaches!
