Stampin' Up! Star of Light Christmas Card #GDP100 and Holiday Catalog Sneak Peek

Happy Monday Peaches! How was your week/weekend? We had a very busy week. My daughter just started the first grade. It's funny because apparently she's so grown up now that she desperately needed new school clothes. I mean I expected to have to buy new clothes each year, but holy cow has this kid grown! Her dresses that were once past her knees in length, are now just barely covering her undergarments, lol. This fact was abundantly clear when she came down one day with one of said "too short" dresses and bent over to pick up her shoes. That was the clear and obvious sign that it was time to get new clothes. Finally, after the stressful clothes shopping was done, we were ready for school, and she was so excited, well, "nervous-cited" she calls it (when she's both nervous and excited). She's so happy to be a first grader!

Now on to today's card. I'm super excited to share this one with you because I'm participating in the Global Design Project Page's 100th project challenge!! This is a very special event as it celebrates 100 amazing and fun design challenges. In addition, it features some brand new products that will be realeased September 1st with the new holiday catty. Now before you judge me about making holiday cards early, I will remind you that I have always been the type of person who likes to get my holiday cards started ahead of time. That way, when Christmas comes around, I'm not stressing about getting them done in time to send; I can just enjoy that wonderful time of year with my family.

For this week's design challenge, we were to chose one (or all) of gorgeous cards created by the design team this week to CASE. If you're not familiar with the term "CASE", it means to "copy and share everything ".  You can select as many elements from the original design that inspire you and apply them to your card, with your own Twist of course! You can check out all the stunning projects here. I chose to case the lovely design by Jessica Williams. What I love about Jessica's card (besides everything, lol) is the  aesthetically pleasing layout. I love the cluster of elements in the middle left of her design, with the perfect balancer-the circular element that grounds the entire design. Here's her design:

My take has been inspired by her card layout design, so I made sure to include these elements. One of the things I really love about this card is all the colors and textures. Yet, there's something simplistic about it. For the background, I used the brand new Winter Wonder Textured Impressions embossing folder, one snowflake embossed on the top left corner and one on the bottom right. Then I took the stunning new Foil Snowflakes (they come in silver and gold and plain on the backside so you can ink them in any color you like) in silver and took my Starburst punch and punched the center out of one. This created a neat new outer rim look for the snowflake. I'll use the center for another project later on.

Next, I die cut one of the stars from the Starlight Thinlits dies out of watercolor paper and used both Dapper Denim and Tempting Turquoise to watercolor it. I added a different star die cut from silver foil and then finished of my card with some of the gorgeous mini Silver Sequin Trim. That's today's card! Thanks so much for stopping by! See you all on Wednesday's post!
