Stampin' Up! Pineapple Card Using Embossing Paste

Happy Monday, Peaches! I'm here with a fun little technique using the embossing paste. In the previous catalog we had a really fun large pineapple stamp, which has since retired. It was so playful and cute that I wanted to create my own pineapple, using the embossing paste and Pattern Party Decorative Masks. I used the stencil (mask) with the diamond shaped pattern on it to create the texture, similar to a pineapple. I only wanted an oval shaped portion to have the paste because that was going to be the fruit base. To achieve this, I die cut an oval, using the oval dies and placed it on my watercolor paper and taped it down. Then I placed the stencil on top of that.

I took out some embossing paste and my Old Olive and Daffodil Delight re-inkers and mixed 2 drops of the Daffodil and 1 of the Olive since I wanted there to be a slight hint of green in my paste for a natural pineapple fruit look. I spread it over the that sectioned off area and then, after I removed the stencil and oval mask, set it aside to dry. The paste dries very fast (typically 5-7 minutes depending on how thick the paste was applied), so I was able to finish the rest of my pineapple after I cleaned off my stencil and tools used with the paste.

To create the fronds I took my aqua painter and both my Emerald Envy and Old Olive ink pads and made light brushstrokes that curved slightly out. I referred to actual pictures of pineapples to create the look of the fronds. I took some Soft Suede and my aqua painter to darken the individual "fruits" on the base of the fruit. After it dried, I fussy cut the whole pineapple out.

I added a few embellishments and added my sentiment, and that's my finished card! I just love the look watercolor with the embossing paste. It's such a fun and cool effect and creates so much texture. I definitely encourage you to give it a try!
