Abstract Impressions - Stampin’ Up! Artisan Blog Hop

Well, hello peaches! Welcome to the Abstract Impressions Stampin' Up! Artisan Design Team Blog Hop! You may have just arrived from Kim McGillis' Blog. I just can't wait to see the gorgeous projects she has created! She always has the most beautiful creations.

Today, I will be showcasing the Abstract Impressions Stamp Set and Springtime Impressions Thinlits Des (DSP) from the Garden Impressions Suite of products. All of the products in this suite are so unique. I had so much fun coming up with designs for these products! I made so many different things and STILL felt like I had only scraped the surface of the potential for them, so you'll definitely be seeing more from me with this suite.

For today's projects, I created a matching card set. Sometimes I like to start with a color scheme when playing with new stamps. This strategy helps me to focus on the stamps and dies and the possibilities they offer and I don't have to think to much about what might look good together because I already have the most difficult step (for me, it's always deciding what colors I want to use) done. I pulled out some Bermuda Bay, Granny Apple Green, Coastal Cabana, Balmy Blue, and Blueberry Bushel Inks and started to stamp a few flowers in a few of those ink colors. Since many of the flowers in this set are designed for layering,some were stamped in full strength, while others in second generation. This set is photopolymer so it's very easy to add the layers. However, because of the artistic nature of this stamp set, I didn't have to work too hard to try to line them up perfectly.

For the card below, I created a fun textured background by wrapping Blueberry Bushel 1/8 inch Grosgrain Ribbon repeatedly around a piece of Blueberry Bushel Cardstock. I like how the ribbon acts as a sort of subtle stripped pattern on this bold color.

For the stunning little card below, I created my own background by using the "grass-like" stamp in a vertical pattern. I used Coastal Cabana Ink (my personal favorite returning color) on Coastal Cabana Cardstock. I love how the coordinating dies can be cut apart into smaller pieces (which I cut from Granny Apple Green Cardstock) and tucked into my layering for even more versatility. And just LOOK at the sweet sentiments in this set! I mean they are totally my type of words. I tell my daughter practically every day how just a little kindness can make a huge difference in someone's day.

Now my favorite piece from the coordination die set is this beautifully detailed little butterfly. I'm always a sucker for anything butterfly (my daughter's nursery-turned-girl's-room is completely butterfly themed) and as soon as I saw it at Onstage I knew it was on my "must have" list.

I know that I will be returning to this set time and again. It's got it all, gorgeous images, artistic designs, beautiful sentiments, and stunning dies. I think you will too. Stampin' Up! Precious Delivery Baby Card

Hey peaches! I'm so happy to be sharing an adorable baby card that features the brand new Precious Delivery Set. With so many new babies on the way in my life (not mine, lol), I figured that I'd get started on creating some appropriate congratulatory new baby themed cards.After all, It's always handy to have a few on hand, right?

This set is so sweet and it has so many great images and sentiments. It would be great for any baby, baby shower, or even shower invite card. I'll include a picture of the set below so you can see what I'm talking about.

I started off with a white base panel, but I wanted to jazz it up a bit, so I used the large floral image from the set (gor-geous by the way!) and stamped in second generation Smokey Slate Ink. I also stamped a few of the smaller leafy images in full strength Smokey Slate and fussy cut them out. After stamping my background I ran my panel through my Big Shot with the beautiful new Subtle Dynamic Textured Impressions Embossing Folder. I also used the same color ink along with Basic Gray Ink to watercolor the sweet little stork image on Watercolor Paper. I also used Balmy Blue Ink to color the little bundle he is carrying. To finish off my card, I added a few sequins from the Iridescent Sequin Assortment. Well, That's my card today! Thanks so much for stopping by! I'll see you next post!

Creating Texture In Unexpected Ways

Hello, everyone! I am so happy to be sharing my creativity on the company blog today. I will be showing you a few ways to create texture on your projects, maybe in ways you may not have thought of. I just know you’re going to love what I have to share today!

Adding texture to your projects can create so much depth and interest, and there are so many ways to do it. I typically add lots of layers to my card for a little extra texture, but if you’re like me, you like to explore other ways to get that gorgeous look.

For my cards today, it seemed fitting to use the Sea of Textures Stamp Set (146488) paired with the Artisan Textures Stamp Set (146572). I mean, “texture” is in the names of these sets, right?! I will show you how I use these two sets to create texture by creating stamped backgrounds as well as how to add it onto places you may not typically expect.

On both of my cards you will notice loads of texture. You can achieve this look easily. I started with Balmy Blue Cardstock (146982) on one card and Whisper White Thick Cardstock (140272) for the other for my bases. I used one of the textured stamps from the Artisan Textures Set to create my textured background. To do this I used my SaharaSand Ink Pad (147117) on my white base and my Balmy Blue Ink Pad (147105) on my blue base repeatedly until the entire surface had been stamped. I stamped off first each time I stamped to get a softer image. It created a real cool “tossed up sand” look which seems quite appropriate for the theme of this ocean card. This simple step of stamping and creating a background produces so much texture and depth on its own, but let’s talk about a few more ways.

Another great way to create texture is to stamp onto your Designer Series Paper. You’ll see in the close-up of the picture below how the large wood-textured starfish has a bit of a pattern on it. To achieve this look I drew a star shape onto a piece of WoodTextures Designer Series Paper (144177) and cut it out 4 times so that I could layer them on top of each other for a faux wood element look. I sanded and inked the edges in Sahara Sand Ink to soften the points of the star. Then I used the “pebbly” looking stamp from the Artisan Textures Set to stamp right onto the star. I think this not only adds more texture, but character to the starfish as well.

Along with stamping onto DSP, you can use textured or patterned stamps with embossing powder on top of an already stamped image to get a textured dimensional look. Achieving this look is simple. I start by stamping my main image (in this case, my octopus). Then after the ink is completely dried, I use one of the textured stamps from the Artisan Textures Set to stamp with onto my image with Versamark Ink (102283) and then added Gold Embossing Powder (109129). After melting the powder with my Heat Tool (129053), all of the gorgeous texture I had stamped was revealed in beautiful gold metallic tones. The effect is really quite stunning. I tried to capture this in the photo below. For a finishing touch on my cards and a dash of additional texture I added some embellishments.

Of course there are countless other ways to add texture to your projects. You could, as mentioned earlier, add layering. You could use embossing paste for a fun background, or you could even distress cardstock. There are so many great options for adding texture!
