Hang Your Stocking Christmas Card and Gift Box

Hello Peaches! Are you ready for another great 3-D project?! Now, keep in mind that I'm still new to them and still learning. I know there are lots of great tutorials out there on how to make gift boxes so mine will be a little more brief, but I'll show you how easily you can pair any gift box with the gorgeous "Hang Your Stocking" stamp set and dies for a real "wow" look.

First, I started with an 8 1/2 x 11 sheet of thick Whisper White. I chose the thicker cardstock because its sturdier and will hold better. You will cut it down to a square shape (8 1/2 x 8 1/2). Then you will score @ 2 inches on each side. See picture below:

Next, cut on the indicated lateral lines below:

Before assembling your lid, you will need to stamp any images you plan to have on the lid as this becomes difficult later without a solid surface. I used the holy leaf and berries to create my background. Then I cut a piece of Emerald Envy cardstock at 11 x 1/2 inches for the belly band and warped it to find where it would need to be scored, marked it and scored those areas for easy folding.

For the bottom part of the box, I did the same thing as I did with the top except I made the measurements an 1/8th of an inch smaller. To finish off my box, I added my stocking, a few trimmed gold snowflakes, and some gold sequin trim.

For the card, I based my layout to be similar to my box, except I added a few pine sprigs. You could add some mini ornaments, ribbon, or whatever you like. I just love the traditional colors of these projects. They really put me in the mood for Christmas! Thanks so much for stopping by! See you next post!

Watercolor Jellyfish Card

Hey there sweet Peaches! I have a fun technique tutorial for you today! One of my favorite ways to create is thriugh watercoloring. It is truly, for me, the most relaxing medium. I love how you can just add a little water and ink and the colors just move. There's no pressure to be perfect. Inherently, watercoloring is an imperfect art form. These are a few of the many great things about watercolor.

To start my watercolor jellyfish, I began with some watercolor paper, and this is key in order for your color to move on the paper. Using regular cardstock will not yield the same results. You will need water based inks as well as these react and move when exposed to water. I love the Stampin' Up! inks for this because they work beautifully with the water and are very vibrant, even as they dilute a bit from the water. Now a few key tips when watercoloring: 1. Be cautious of how much water you use. Too much water can result in a big sopping mess and/or hard water edges. 2. Go light with the color to start with, because you can always add more color (drying between each application so as to not over saturate) but you can't as easily take it away. 3. Just have fun! Don't try to think too much about it. Watercoloring is very organic. The more you let go and enjoy it, the more beautiful it will turn out in my experience.

For the main outline of the body, I used my Stampin' Write Markers in both Bermuda Bay and Pacific Point. I drew a basic somewhat scribbly shape for the body of the jellyfish and then went over it with my aqua painter to soften the shape. Then I squeezed my closed Bermuda Bay ink pad so that ink from the pad would be left in the well (lid) of the pad, and I used that to paint with. I did the same with both my Pacific Point and Lemon Lime Twist ink pads to vary the color of its body.

Next I took my markers and drew some "tentacles" coming from the body, drifting in the waves at different lengths. I also ran over these with my aqua painter as well. Then, to create the frillier looking tentacles, I swished in tiny, varied back and forth motions, first in Lemon Lime Twist. Then while the paper was still wet, I added drops of Bermuda Bay in various areas and then finished them off with a few drops of Pacific Point. I just love how realistic he turned out!

I wanted to mention how I created the Lemon Lime Twist/Bermuda Bay glimmer paper in my card. One of the new products that I think is overlooked but I just love in the new catalog are the Multipurpose Adhesive Sheets. I took my Lemon Lime Twist cardstock, blended a little Bermuda Bay ink on the edges and applied it to one of these sheets, removed the release paper, and added some Dazzling Diamonds to it. To prevent the glitter from rubbing off I used my bone folder to burnish it into the paper. Full disclosure: some glitter will inevitably still come off but the burnishing will help to reduce this. And voilà, you've got glimmer paper in any color you wish!

Thank you so much for stopping by! I hope you e enjoyed today's post! I'll see you next time!

Ombré Textured Thank You Card

Hi there Peaches! Wow has this week been flying, well at least for me! I can't believe it's already Wednesday! I realize that Monday being a holiday is the main reason for the short week, but I think it's seemed so quick is that it's been so busy. There have been party after party after party, my workload has increased quite a bit, and my daughter finally has a consistent school schedule. It seemed like it was just the beginning of August not too long ago. Mostly though, I'm glad. It's been in the triple digits here the past couple weeks and nothing cures the heat like that refreshing autumn weather, so bring it on!

Before I start diving into fall projects again (and believe me, they're coming 😉), I wanted to bring you a bright playful card that features many different textures, along with some ombré mixed in. I find that having multiple types of texture can add so much interest and dimension to a card or project. Your eye just gravitates to these areas. I especially love doing tone on tone when adding texture for a beautifully subtle background like I did with the gorgeous Pinewood Planks Dynamic Textured embossing folder. I used Pool Party cardstock for both the base and first layer.

The next textured element is the heart. I took a piece of Whisper White cardstock and a sponge and inked on some Bermuda Bay ink. The key to an ombré look is a light hand when inking. After inking the sponge (lightly), I first dab off a bit on some scrap paper so that there aren't any harsh lines created from the natural shape of the sponge. Always start from the bottom and ink upwards so that the ink gradually gets lighter as you move up. Keep inking this way until you're happy with the color. This doesn't have to be perfect since I planned to die cut it out with the Bloomin' Heart die.

After I die cut the heart, I adhered it to my card base. Then I added the other elements to finish it off. The doily, twine, and small hearts add even more texture. As you can see, you can add as much or as little of these elements to add the dimension and interest you prefer. There are so many possibilities! Give it a try! Well, that's my card for today! Thanks for stopping by! See you next post!
