Stampin' Up! Fabulous Flamingo Watercolor Congratulations Card

Hey Peaches! Happy Monday! I have a lovely watercolor card for you today. You all know how I love incorporating this technique into my projects. I just love how I can be so free, and even a bit messy with the process, because here's the thing: I'm a super "type A" clean freak. Yes, I'll admit it. I hate messes, and when things are out of place. I can't even truly enjoy most things if I'm surrounded by any kind of disarray, so when I get to watercolor, I feel like I can really let go. I can do whatever I want to. I can just let the process happen. I can't even explain what happens, but it's always good and I come away feeling refreshed and energized with creativity. I just love watercoloring and I loved creating this card.

I started by taking the beautiful flamingo stamp(s) from the Fabulous Flamingo stamp set which is a multiple step stamp, and stamped her (I've decided my flamingo is a "her") first in Flirty Flamingo, then in Calypso Coral for the next two layers onto watercolor paper. Then, I took a few of my Stamp-n-write markers in the Calypso Coral, Flirty Flamingo, Melon Mambo, and Rose Red to flick additional feathers onto the flamingo. To do this, I used the brush too end of the pen and in a feathering-flick motion, created the feathers in varied lengths and colors. Then, I took the stamp with the outlined body legs of the flamingo and just inked up the legs in Basic Black archival ink. I took my spritzer, filled with just water, and spritzed it lightly, just enough to get the colors to start to move, and then I heat set it to dry it.

After it dried, I took each marker, one at a time, and colored a bit in a piece of acetate and spritzed it with water till the ink beaded up and "smooshed" the ink all around the flamingo. Lastly, (it's important that you do this step at the end so the black ink won't bleed) I took my black stamp-n-write marker to color in her beak and eye. I cut around the image, added it, along with a few embellishments, to my card base, and that finished my card for today. Thanks so much for stopping by and I'll see you next post!

Stampin' Up! Best Birds Card

Hello and happy Wednesday, Peaches! I hope your week is going well! I have a cute card for you today, featuring the Best Birds stamp set and dies. I had been putting off getting this set for a while now, and honestly, I'm not even sure why. The sentiments are great for many occasions and the birds are just too cute! I look forward to creating many cards with this set.

For today's card, I was having fun playing with a color combo that features the new in-color Powder Pink, along with the previous year's new in-color Peekaboo Peach. I also added a bit of Soft Sky and Bermuda Bay for a few blue tones to balance my warm colors out with some cool tones. I love mixing warm tones with cool tones. Typically in art, it can be difficult to mix the two tones and come up with something appealing to the eye, but I just love the way these colors mix!

I wanted to add the "branch" stamp in my background to "ground" my bird a bit, but struggled at first because I didn't want to introduce too many colors into my project, at the risk of assaulting the eyes, lol. My solution was to heat emboss the branch in copper, which I think turned out pretty cool. I like the metallic shine it adds to the project.

Lastly, I added a few embellishments along with my sentiment, and that completed my card. Thanks so much for stopping by! See you next post!

Stampin' Up! No Bones About It Watercolor Birthday Card #GDP095

Happy, happy Monday, Peaches! Did you enjoy your weekend? I had a very relaxing weekend for once. Way too often lately, I've found my weekends jam-packed with events and things to do, so it's so nice to be able to relax and enjoy a day to myself. And what's a day of relaxation and enjoyment without a little crafting thrown in, right?!

This week over on the Global Design Project page, the these is Kids (Global Design Project 095). Check out all the wonderful projects that the team have created here.

I always seem to run out of boy birthday cards, so this challenge is perfect! I will generally create a few ahead of time to have on hand for later. So for today's card, I used the "No Bones About It" stamp set. This set is so darn cute! It's packed full of fun dino-themed sentiments and images. You can even stamp a party hat for the dinosaurs to wear. I love the footprints stamp. You could use it as a fun background stamp to create your own patterned paper, or for a path of prints that follow your dinosaur, or as I have done in my card, make footprints in the mud.

To create the footprints in the mud look, I first stamped the footprints stamp in Versamark ink onto watercolor paper and added white embossing powder. After I heat set the powder, I used my Chocolate Chip ink pad and my aqua painter to create a "muddy" path, surrounding/following the footprints that were embossed. This process is meant to be fun. Try not to think too hard about it and just add watercolor messily around your embossed images. One thing to keep in mind when watercoloring is how much water you're adding. If you don't like hard lines (which in this project's case, I think adds to the look of mud so it works), then go light-handed with the water, and as you add more color, dry between each layer. This will add depth and color without the hard lines. To finish the muddy look, I flicked some of the ink onto my watercolor panel at an angle with my aqua painter, and set it aside to dry while I worked on the rest of my card.

For the rest of my card, I cut out some greenery in a variety of Emerald Envy, Lemon Lime Twist, and watercolored paper. Then I used the Seaside embossing folder with some Lemon Lime Twist cardstock to add a bright panel behind my watercolored panel. I stamped my dino in Lemon Lime Twist and the bones in Emerald Envy, cut him out, and added him to my project. After stamping and cutting my sentiment, I added one final touch: the brand new Glitter Enamel Dots.

Well, that's today's card! Thanks so much for stopping by! Enjoy the rest of your Monday and I'll see you on Wednesday!

Stampin' Up! Pretty Kitty Sentiment Background Stamping

Hey Peaches! Today is July 5th and for those of us who live in the United States, that means we just celebrated our Independence Day. It's the day we remember and honor those brave souls who fought for our freedom. Many of them have even payed the ultimate price for that freedom. I can't even express the gratitude I feel towards those generous, brave Americans and their families.

My family likes to celebrate this day by getting together, playing games, BBQing, and lightning a few fireworks. It's always a fun time and we savor the moments we get together to enjoy each others' company. You'll probably laugh, but I even fit time in to create today's card, lol.

Today, I made a card with a fun background that's created with both a mask and just using a simple sentiment. I'm not sure if there's a name for the "sentiment background" technique, but, basically, here's what I did: I first took and die cut an oval from a piece of scrap paper, using my oval dies. Then I used the positive portion of cardstock (which is the piece of scrap paper I cut the oval from) as a mask and placed it over my main panel. I like to tape it down when I'm ink blending because it seems to like to move around if I don't, and I wanted a clean image of an oval for my background. I used one of my favorite In-Colors, Lemon Lime Twist and a sponge to ink blend some color over the open area of my mask, to create a Lemon Lime Twist oval. Next was the sentiment part.

For the sentiment, I chose a fun "hello" type greeting from the set, Pretty Kitty. I just love all those adorable kitties, especially the one tangled in yarn. I chose a somewhat darker ink, Pear Pizzazz, to stamp my sentiment repeatedly around the inked oval area. Then, after I was happy with the background, I die cut a smaller circle from the center of the original inked oval. I'll explain what I plan to do with it towards the end, but for now, I set it aside to work on my kitty and floral images.

First, for my floral images, I die cut some greenery and flowers from watercolor paper and, using my aqua painter, painted them using various inks. Then I set them aside to dry, and I moved on to stamping my kitty image. After stamping and coloring my kitty image, I fussy cut her out and arranged my her with my floral images until I liked the configuration. I took the die cut oval from before, popped it up with dimensionals, and placed it back in the area it was die cut from, just to add some additional dimension and interest. I added my kitty and floral arrangement, and that completes my card for today! Thanks so much for stopping by, and be sure to check out all of the AMAZING deals happening this month! Don't miss out!
