Merry Patterns Christmas Card

Hi Peaches! I apologize but this will be a quick post. It’s been a super busy couple of weeks, but I didn’t want to miss my Wednesday post and sharing some creativity with you.

Today I have a Christmas card featuring the Merry Patterns set. This set is so fun and full of great images that work great for not only Christmas cards but many other types as well. The deer could be great for masculine cards or even the candles for a birthday card. There arare so many possibilities and this set is only available when you host a party or place an order of $300 or more now through October 31st. So you’ll want to get your hands on this set while you can. I’ve provided more information below. Now onto my card.

I started with a simple watercolor wash using Lemon Lime Twist starting at the top and Garden Green towards the bottom. I added some Emerald Envy elements too for a monochromatic look. I love all the layers and details in this card. There’s even a few touches of gold. Well that’s my quick card for today! Thanks so much for stopping by and I’ll see you next post!

Dragonfly Dreams Watercolor Sunburst Background

Wow, it’s Monday again Peaches! It’s been such a busy week(end). I went with my extended family to our traditional trip to Apple Hill. Apple Hill, if you’ve never been, is a place in Northern California that is made up of numerous farms that produce everything from apples to pumpkins to Christmas trees. We make a point to go each year as a family because as I mentioned earlier it’s our tradition that we we’ve had since we (my siblings and I) were children. We meet up at one of the farms and enjoy apple donuts, apple milkshakes, pie, caramel apples, apple beer, and every other kind of tasty treat you can imagine. Even upon arrival you’ll be greeted with the most delicious smell of fresh apple pies being baked. We are so happy to continue the tradition and to be able to share it with our little ones. What sort of fall traditions do you enjoy?

Well on to today’s card. While our on our trip through one of the beautiful farms in Apple Hill I was taken a back by all the natural beauty of my surroundings. One of these stunning sights was this magical looking dragonfly flitting about the sunflowers and small ponds that sat quietly at the base of the farm. I just loved how the rays of the sun made their translucent wings sparkle. Of course I was inspired by this to create some fraction of its beauty.

I started with the sun rays. I took a piece of watercolor paper (because I knew I would be adding water later) and a scrap paper. Next I took that scrap paper and angled it onto my watercolor paper so that only the top corner was visible. Then I took my sponge dobber and, first with my Daffodil Delight Ink, I blotted on ink just along the angled line. I moved the paper down (still at an angle) and added another line of Daffodil Delight ink. After repeating this until I reached the bottom, began the same process with my Bermuda Bay ink. However, I only inked parts of the rays that were created with my scratch paper (see photo below).

Next, after removing my scrap paper, I took my Aqua Painter and went over each of rays, creating softer lines. I wanted a more watercolor-y look so I took a piece of acetate, dabbed it into Daffodil Delight, then spritzed it softly with water and used the “ink smooshing” technique. I repeated this with my Bermuda Bay ink. When I was happy with the results I put it aside to try while I assembled the rest of my card.

For the rest of the card I used the Dragonfly Dreams stamp set and dies. I die cut the dragonfly out of Whisper White cardstock. Did you happen to notice the details of the “sparkling wings”? To achieve this, I took a piece of vellum, stamped the large dragonfly stamp in Versamark ink, and added a mixture of Clear Embossing Powder and Dazzling Diamonds Glitter and heat set it (see picture below). It makes the perfect magical wings. Well, that’s my card for today! Thanks so much for stopping by and I’ll see you next post!

Moon Baby Card

Hello Peaches! I wanted to hop in real quick to share a sweet little baby card for you. I like to have a few baby cards on hand because it's nice to just have one ready when you need it. Generally I'll have a few months notice when a baby's coming, but there have been a few times when I just need to grab one quickly when there's very little time to create one.

So for today's card I'm using the adorable set Moon Baby by Stampin' Up! This set has some really adorable images that pair great with the sentiments included in the set.

Did you notice the puffy clouds? I used the new Embossing Paste along with the cloud stencil to create the cloud background. Then I quickly, before it dried, added some Dazzling Diamonds glitter to the paste to make it glittery. You can also mix the glitter right into the paste. I choose not to do this so that I can put any extra leftover paste back into the tub for use later, but when you mix it, the glitter sticks in it better. Then, to achieve the puffy look, I took my heat tool to the paste until tihey puffed up. I hope you liked my quick baby card. Thanks so much for stopping by and I'll see you next post!

Watercolor Christmas Tree Card Using Embossing Paste for Snow

Happy Monday Peaches! It's been a bit of a bittersweet weekend. My mom is moving out of state to Oklahoma so my brothers, sisters, and I all got together with her at my house for a little going away party. The sweet part was getting see everyone and spend time together. Of course the bitter part is that she'll no longer be within decent driving distance. How do you prepare for someone close to leave?! I've handled it the same way in the past and I always feel like there's never been enough time together. Then, when they're gone, I always feel a bit of regret. I think what makes it a bit easier to swallow is the promise of next visit. It's not good by for good, just for now.

Well, I suppose I should get on with today's card. You know I just can't stay away from the watercoloring technique. It's my jam, people, lol. However in today's card, I've added a little twist. I wanted to create a tree, using my Emerald Envy ink and Aqua Painter, and Stampin' Up! has some truly gorgeous sets with trees of all sizes. But I just wanted to create my own, I know, crazy, haha. So I started with my watercolor paper. Since I was going for a more symmetrical looking tree (you that magical, nonexistent one that we imagine we'll find in the Christmas tree farm but never do because there's always a flaw, though always a beautiful flaw.), so I began by drawing a straight line lightly in pencil with my straight edge. Next, I like to lay down a layer of water before I add the ink so that the color spreads smoothly. I took some ink and began at the bottom, swishing lightly back and forth in a wide stroke st first. Then as I gradually moved up, I would shorten my swishing movement so that the bottom of my tree was wider than the top. You can come back and add ink to different areas for shading if you like.

I let this dry and then I took some of the Embossing Paste and my Palette Knife and spread some on a few branches throughout the tree. Just use your knife to spread it as desired. It's pretty forgiving so you can remove any if you feel you don't like the placement while it's wet. However, it does dry fast so if it dries, it's stuck there. Directly after that I added some Dazzling Diamonds glitter to the paste before it dried. Then I hear set the paste with my heat tool which made it begin to puff up, looking like snow. I cut it out and added it to my card front. The sentiment that I added came from the beautiful Hearts Come Home stamp set. I added a few more embellishments and that finished off my card! I added a close up picture below so you can see the gorgeous dimension that the paste created. This is such a fun technique! I definitely recommend it. Thanks so much for stopping by! See you next post!
