Dragonfly Dreams Birthday Card

Hello peaches and happy Monday! I hope you were able to catch our Sure Do Love You Artisan Blog Hop. If you did, feel free to click on the link. This hop was packed full of amazing projects and ideas that you’re sure to love!

With the blog hop and my Stampin’ Up! corporate post it has been a busy week and I’m now ready to start fresh with a new week and new inspiration. My card today actually came together because of some beautiful paper. Has that ever happened to you? You see some gorgeous paper and you think, “I have got to use that on a project!”, and then inspiration strikes! Now for some of us (totally guilty here), the next step is a battle as to whether we want to use that pretty paper or to hoard it, lol. Well, I’m happy to report that today I resisted the urge and used that gorgeous Desiner Series Paper (DSP) just as it was intended. You’ll see how the paper works perfectly in my card today.

The DSP that I was inspired by is from the Sale-a-Bration Catalog. It’s called Bubbles & Fizz Designer Series Paper. It has some of the most playful and bright colors and images. It’s designed to go with the Bubble Over Set but as soon as I saw the beautiful bright yellow patterned piece, I saw honeycombs! I’ve included a picture of this DSP below.

So that’s where the inspiration started and here’s how the rest of the card came together. I started by using the Dragonfly Dreams Stamp Set and Detailed Dragonfly Thinlits. Now even though this stunning set is packed full of delicate dragonflies, it also has some lovely bee images and coordinating dies, so of course I needed to use those sweet little honeybees with my honeycomb paper right?!

So to start my card, I began with my typical white base cut from Thick Whisper White Cardstock. Then I cut the DSP at 4” x 5 1/4” for my first panel. I really wanted that to show in my background so my next layer was cut much smaller. To continue with my honeycomb theme, I embossed this layer with the Hexagons Dynamic Textured Impressions Embossing Folder (try to say that 10 time’s fast, haha). I layered that onto a piece of Basic Black Cardstock cut at the same size and I distressed the edges with my Paper Snips. Then I adhered those two panels on top of my DSP panel.

Next, I cut a circle out and inked a potion of it in Daffodil Delight Ink with my Sponge Dauber. I then took my Starburst Punch and punched out a circle from Silver Glimmer Paper. I also stamped the bee image in Basic Black Ink onto Daffodil Delight Cardstock. I die cut a bee from Basic Black Cardstock as well. I added some Black Sequin Trim and Silver Metallic Thread behind my circle layers and added my bees and sentiment on top. To finish off my card, I added some Metallic Enamel Shapes and that finished off my card for today. Thanks so much for stopping by and I’ll see you next post!
